Man charged after damaging sprinkler head in jail, striking officer

A Raymondville man incarcerated in the Texas County Jail faces a new charge after allegedly damaging jail equipment.

Corey Fitzpatrick, 43, of 115 Junction Street in Raymondville, is charged with damage to jail property (a class E felony).

On Sept. 4, a deputy responded to the Texas County Jail regarding a report of Fitzpatrick acting aggressive and destroying a sprinkler head located in Wing 5, causing a large amount of water to enter the wing.

Upon arrival in Wing 5, the officer encountered Fitzpatrick, who reportedly stood in a threatening manner with his hand closed into a fist. When the deputy tried to detain Fitzpatrick, he reportedly struck the officer in the upper lip, causing pain and a small amount of swelling.

Fitzpatrick was charged on Nov. 5.

Cash-only bond on the charge is set at $2,500.

He was serving time after violating the terms of probation on a previous charge of possession of a controlled substance.
